Tips for Stall Holders


EQUIPMENT HIRE


There are a limited number of clothing racks available for hire on Market Day, at a cost of $5 each. Trestle table hire is also available for selected events. Details of this are provided on our event booking form.


  • Clothing Rack size approximately - 99cm long x 46cm wide.


STALL & EQUIPMENT SET UP


Most event have indoor stalls that are 2m x 3m in size. We do not allow any more than 2 clothing racks in our 2m x 3m indoor stalls, as any more than this creates too much clutter and does not allow shopper to browse comfortably. Consider the following options for your set up;


  • 2 Clothing Racks 
  • 1 Clothing Rack & 1 Trestle Table 
  • 2 Clothing Racks & 1 Small Table (Card Table or Small Coffee Table size)

Some events will have the option of outdoor stalls, this is generally offered during the warmer moths. Outdoor stalls are 3m x 3m to allow stall holder to have the option of a gazebo. The slightly larger stalls allow for the following set up options;


  • 3-4 Clothing Racks 
  • 2 Clothing Racks & 1 Trestle Table 
  • 2 Clothing Racks & 2 Small Tables (Card Table or Small Coffee Table size)

Events with a larger hall area allow us to have 3m x 3m indoor stalls. This is all detailed on our event booking form, and we suggest the above outdoor layouts for these stalls. 



Experience has shown us that stall holders will have the best luck selling items from known fashion or designer labels – we encourage you to consider this when selecting items to bring along for sale. 


We are appealing to a fashion forward market, and also encourage that stall holders bring along current season styles and on trend labels.  But please do not feel restricted by this advise - you are able to bring along any items from your wardrobe – as one woman’s trash is another women’s treasure…

You may like to considering bringing along high end fashion labels also (if you are lucky enough to own some e.g. Nicholas, Saba, Lover, Aje, Ginger & Smart, Viktoria & Woods, Sass & Bide, Thurley, Manning Cartell, Zimmermann) but remember that it is a market and you are not likely to get a high end $ return.


MARKET DAY TIPS


1. CASH FLOAT

Our events are CASH ONLY, and unfortunately due to the nature of such an event, there are no exchanges or refunds offered. Ensure you have change in small denominations ($1, $2, $5 & $10) in order for smooth transactions.


2. SHOPPING BAGS
You may like to start to hold on to any shopping bags you accumulate between now and the event, that way you can offer your customers a bag for their garments at the time of purchase. If you are selling accessories, you may even consider tissue paper to wrap your items as you sell them to give that extra touch for your customer.

3. MERCHANDISING/DISPLAY
How you display your stall will play a huge part in how attractive it is to shoppers and has the potential to generate more sales. Please consider the following; ensure your racks/shelves are clean, if you are using a table - use a table cloth, iron your clothing to make it more appealing and try to avoid wire hangers (wooden and/or thick plastic hangers present better). Hang all your clothing, as shoppers are not always keen on rummaging through boxes and tubs to find items.  A full length mirror will also be a huge benefit to shoppers.

Previous stall holders have brought along rugs, a coffee table, vintage chairs, vintage suitcases to display shoes and jewelery, even fresh or artificial flowers. These allow you to show your personality and bring your stall to life.

4. SITTING
Experience has shown us that sitting inside your stall may not be the best approach. If a customer sees a stall holder sitting down in their stall (possibly looking a little bored) they are less likely to browse the stall and interact with you. Be close by to keep an eye on your stall and once a potential customer is showing interest in an item, then you can step in and engage with them.

5. PRICING GUIDE

It is up to you if you want to price your garments before the event, or simply take offers on the day (you may even like to do both). You can price a garment by simply placing a ‘post it’ note on each hanger. Or you might like to purchase price tags from Officeworks or stationary store (approx. $5 for a pack of 100). Another option is to simply price a rack and have all items on that rack at the one price.
